← All resourcesAustralia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and finding changes early makes a real difference. Our practice offers full-body skin examinations and skin cancer medicine, including mole checks and minor procedures.
A skin check is quick and straightforward. Your doctor examines your skin from head to toe, pays close attention to any spots you're worried about, and may use a dermatoscope (a special magnifier) to look more closely.
Key points
- Consider a check if you notice a new spot, or a mole that is changing in size, shape or colour.
- Between visits, look for the ABCDEs: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour changes, Diameter larger than about 6mm, and Evolving spots.
- Wear sun protection year-round (slip, slop, slap, seek and slide), especially between 10am and 3pm.
- Everyone's risk is different; your doctor can advise how often you should be checked.
